…Book That Kept You Up All Night

Recommend A… is a SUPER meme hosted by Shanyn from Chick Loves Lit that lets us get a little random, and a little off the radar. I LOVE IT.

This one is actually harder than I thought it would be. I don’t often read books that scare the crap out of me, so picking a book that kept me from sleeping because it made my mind go a million miles a minute, so I’m sticking with a book that was so good that I couldn’t put it down to go to bed. Friends, when I read TIGER LILY just a few months ago, I kind of went into it a little slowly, but by the time I got to the second half, I really couldn’t stop reading. I couldn’t turn away from the heartbreaking story of Tiger Lily and Peter Pan, even though you know from the beginning where things are heading. The way Jodi Lynn Anderson wraps up her story is really beautiful. Sad and emotional, but very poetic. I was up WAY late reading the last chapter or so, and then rereading it over and over. And then I kind of was exhausted from crying and being emotionally wrung out a little bit. But yeah. I wasn’t putting this one down unfinished, friends!

Five-Star Friday: Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Five-Star Friday is a periodically regular (say what?!) feature that I’m planning on running on Fridays (but not every Friday) in which I talk about (or verbally drool over) a book that I’ve read and ADORED (sometimes they’ll be recent releases and other times they might be older…my piles are tall and the bottoms are old). Yay! I always feel so happy and light and wonderful when I am beside myself with delight over a book, and I want to share the love with you all in the hopes that we can all get together and have an embarrassing, squeal-filled love-fest full of lots of high-pitched “Ohmygod, I KNOW!s” and chest-clutching sighs of contentedness. Huzzah!*

Hello, there, old friend! It’s been a little while since we last caught up with one another. Don’t get all frowny-face on me, though, because have I got a good one for you! TIGER LILY by Jodi Lynn Anderson, one of my favorite books of the year no question or doubt at all. Because I loved it so much, and because the writing was so sublime, I’m going to do something a little different and review the book in quotes. Just a few; just a taste. But it’s a good, juicy taste, I promise.

Guys. I have NO IDEA how I am only just hearing about TIGER LILY by Jodi Lynn Anderson RIGHT NOW. Because honestly, there’s very little I love more than a retelling of a classic story, ESPECIALLY when that retelling mines other, completely different characters to lead the story. It helps me to have a more complete understanding of the world, the story, everything. And guys? Could there BE a more awesome-sounding thing than Peter Pan told via Tiger Lily, Indian princess and Captain Hook kidnap victim? I submit that NO there is not. I think this whole idea is the business, especially because there seems to be a love triangle between Tiger Lily, Peter, and Wendy. Now, sometimes triangles make me cringy and frustrated, but I think that this is one I can get behind. Mostly because I am JAZZED to be inside Tiger Lily’s head. She was a firmly secondary character in the versions of Peter Pan that most people know, so I can’t wait to hear her version of events. Also, Peter Pan as a love interest?! WORD.

TIGER LILY is coming out July 3, 2012 from HarperTeen.
