In My Mailbox (17)

March 4, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. It’s awesome. Every week, we all get a chance to tell everyone what new books we’ve gotten so that we can tell you guys and we can all drool and squee together! Huzzah for squees!

Ok. So, I’m doing something TOTALLY NEW this week with my IMM, guys. Yes. It’s a VLOG. (GAH! *crawls under the bed and dies*) It’s not hot. In fact, I toyed with not posting it because I look weird and I didn’t get to edit it the way I had hoped, but I’m completely new to the video thing on my Mac, and I wanted to rip that band-aid off. Gotta post the first video sometime, right? So, keep in mind my newbie-ness while you’re watching and remember that I WILL GET BETTER AT IT. I promise.

But enough about my video! There’s great books on there! That’s the important part, so let’s CHECK IT:

Shout out to: Shanyn @ Chick Loves Lit

Book Action!

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6), by Richelle Mead. From the library. Holla!

Pandemonium (Delirium #2), by Lauren Oliver. Bought this one 🙂

Awkward, by Marni Bates. Blog tour! My review and a giveaway will be up on March 25!

UPDATE: Because I had my vlog on the brain, I COMPLETELY forgot to mention the two titles I got from NetGalley this week, which is sad because THEY ARE AWESOME:

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1), by Robin LaFevers. YOU GUYS. This one was available on NG for only two days as a promo and I DEVOURED it right after I got it. This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it met my expectations AND THEN SOME. One of the best books of the year. WRITE IT DOWN. (Big thank you kiss to Houghton Mifflin! GRAVE MERCY is out April 3, 2012.)

Romeo Redeemed (Juliet Immortal #2), by Stacey Jay. Yay! Next book in the Juliet Immortal series! (Thanks to Delacorte BFYR!! ROMEO REDEEMED is out October 9, 2012.)

Tripping Over March

Got some FAB stuff this week for the Debut Author Challenge ARC tour and some SWEET deals for mah Kindle. Woot!

FROM THE DAC ARC TOUR

I have been SO LUCKY with the books I’ve gotten/will be getting for the DAC ARC tours. I’m seriously psyched about all of them, including these three!

Look at these beauties!!

Above World: Above World #1, by Jenn Reese (February 14, 2012 from Candlewick). Finished this one already, friends, and it was some SOLID middle-grade sci-fi/dystopian. Very clever and zippy. Review going up soon!

Unraveling: Unraveling #1, by Elizabeth Norris (April 24, 2012 from Balzer + Bray). Reading this one now and, guys? IT’S AWESOME. It sucked me right in. And according to the authoress herself, there will be MOAR. As much as I would LOVE to see a book like this as a stand-alone just for funsies, I can’t say that I’m not JAZZED to the extreme that there will be more Janelle and Ben. And I’m not even finished with it yet.

The Catastrophic History of You and Me, by Jess Rothenberg (February 21, 2012 from Dial Books). JUST got this one in the mail and YAY! I’ve been looking forward to reading this book about a girl who literally dies of a broken heart for AGES. Can’t wait!

Thanks LOADS to Tara @ Fiction Folio and Lisa @ Lisa Is Busy Nerding for organizing the tours for these books. Also for being FABULOUS.

BOUGHT

The Highlander’s Sword and The Highlander’s Heart: Highlander #1-2, by Amanda Forester. These were some cheap goodies for the kindle, and I can’t think of anything that sounds bad about either of them right now, mostly because THERE’S SCOTTISH MEN who wear kilts in them. My weakness for kilts and guys who say things like “och” and “aye lass” knows no end. I have high hopes for these two!

I hope you guys got some great things in your mailboxes this week!!

In My Mailbox (15)

February 19, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. It’s awesome. Every week, we all get a chance to tell everyone what new books we’ve gotten so that we can tell you guys and we can all drool and squee together! Huzzah for squees!

This week is about quality not quantity, friends. Check it!

FROM NETGALLEY

Kill Me Softly, by Sarah Cross (April 10, 2012 from EgmontUSA). Guys, I am SO EXCITED about this book. I’ve been waiting for it basically because it sounds like Once Upon a Time in a book, and THAT sounds BANANAS.

(Thanks muchly to Egmont USA for this gem!)

FROM THE LIBRARY

Virtuosity, by Jessica Martinez. I love reading about young people who have creative talents like drawing or music or dancing, mostly because I can’t really do any of those things at all, so I get to pretend vicariously that I’m artistically gifted. This book is about a violinist who gets caught up in some relationship dramz that could affect her winning a major competition. VIOLINIST. #mydreaminstrument

Lady of the Forest and Lady of Sherwood: Sherwood #1 and #2, by Jennifer Roberson. ROBIN ‘OOD!! Maid Marian!! And a pox on the phony king of England, Prince John!! I love Robin Hood, and I’ve heard admittedly both good and not-so-good things about Jennifer Roberson’s Sherwood series, but I love the Robin Hood legend so much that I’m going for it. I had NO IDEA though that the first book is a DOOR STOP. Good thing I LOVE door stops!

How about you, my dears? Anything tremendous in your mailboxes?

In My Mailbox (14)

February 12, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. It’s awesome. Every week, we all get a chance to tell everyone what new books we’ve gotten so that we can tell you guys and we can all drool and squee together! Huzzah for squees!

SO. MUCH. AWESOME. I’m VERY excited about the books this week, guys. (Seriously, though, when am I NOT?)

FROM NETGALLEY

The Raft, by S.A. Bodeen (August 21, 2012 from Feiwel & Friends). If this book about a young girl who is stranded on a remote, possibly uninhabited island after a plane crash doesn’t sound EXACTLY like YA Lost, I don’t know what does. What are the odds on these kids finding a hatch? Smoke monster? Cave with two ancient skeletons?

Shadow & Bone: The Grisha, #1, by Leigh Bardugo (June 5, 2012 from Holt Books for Young Readers).  Guys, this book sounds like some VERY PROMISING fantasy about a young girl who has magical powers that may help save her war-torn kingdom from annihilation at the hands of flesh-eating beasts and other assorted enemies. YES PLEASE.

Struck, by Jennifer Bosworth (May 8, 2012 from Farrar, Straus & Giroux). Earthquakes, dystopian Los Angeles, CULTS, and doomsday prophecies??? SOUNDS SICK. I am in.

Of Poseidon: Of Poseidon, #1, by Anna Banks (May 22, 2012 from Feiwel & Friends). Can’t lie, guys: I’m kind of really psyched about all the mermaid/mermen/Kings and Queens of the Sea business that’s coming out soon. OF POSEIDON sounds fun, PLUS–Jersey Shore (not the Snookie kind, but the actual real beach). REPRESENT!

The Treachery of Beautiful Things, by Ruth Frances Long (August 16, 2012 from Penguin Young Readers). Faeries and some enchanted woods and a missing brother and an enigmatic guy all sounds SOLID. Looking forward to this one!

The Garden Intrigue: Pink Carnation, #8, by Lauren Willig (February 16, 2012 from Dutton). You guys know that I LOVE the Pink Carnation books, so to say that I’m JAZZED to read the newest installment is an understatement. Seriously adore these books.

(Thanks muchly to Macmillan Children’s, Penguin Young Readers Group, and Penguin USA for these FABULOUS books!)

FROM THE LIBRARY

Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, and Spirit Bound: Vampire Academy, #2-5. I’m catching up on this series fast, friends. Now, confidential to the dear patron who checked out LAST SACRIFICE before I did: I’m waiting on you, my dear!

BOUGHT

Born Wicked: The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1, by Jessica Spotswood. This is one of my highly anticipated reads, guys, and I got my hot little hands on a copy RIGHT AWAY. I’m going to be diving into this one ASAP.

Anastasia’s Secret, by Susanne Dunlap. Snatched this one up for Le Kindle and it sounds SO up my alley: it’s about Anastasia Romanov during the last days of her father’s reign as Tsar in which she and her LOVER (!!) attempt to escape her family’s prison in Siberia.

Prisoners in the Palace: How Princess Victoria Became Queen With the Help of Her Maid, by Michaela MacColl. Have I ever told you how excited I get when the Kindle Daily Deals are awesome, guys? No? Well I do. This book–a historical fiction about a young Queen Victoria–sounds fab.

What kind of fab stuff did you guys get this week?
