Top Ten Most Read Authors

So I’m going to admit right off the bat that I cherry-picked this list a bit. Because I thought of some of these on my own but had to check Goodreads for the others and I had LOTS of authors with the same number of books read. WHOOPS but also MY LIST, DON’T CARE. Some of these actually surprised me as well; turns out I’ve read more books by some of them than I realized, so that’s awesome! Another thing that happened? I got super happy looking at this list, because these authors have all given me so many hours of excellent reading.

Most read authorsHard to beat Janet, guys, simply because she’s written a TON of books. She’s number one on my most-read list with 14 and I’m BEHIND on her Stephanie Plum series. By, like, six books. To be honest with you, the formula is getting very old so I have a harder time wanting to pick up her books. Someone just let me know when Stephanie and Joe get together, mmkay? Most read authorsRick was one of the authors that surprised me, although he shouldn’t have because I’ve read all of the Percy Jackson books (five), two of the Kane Chronicles books, and four of the Heroes of Olympus books (been in denial that this series is over so I haven’t read the last one yet). I LOVE RICK RIORDAN. His books are fun, humorous, action-packed, and they pique my curiosity about mythology. I can’t wait for Magnus! GIMME THE VIKINGS!Most read authors I remembered all about Maggie on my own. The only books of hers I haven’t read are her anthologies with the Merry Sisters of Fate, so she clocks in with 10 books read. She’s one of my Number One’s. I really don’t care what she writes, I’ll read it. Even if it’s zombies. (Although UGH that would also kind of not be awesome.)Most read authorsIf you enjoy historical romance and haven’t read Lauren’s Pink Carnation series, find your way to it ASAP. It’s incredibly fun. Also, if you are a reader who prefers to wait for a series to be over before starting, you’re in luck! (But you’ll soon be sad.) The last book in this series just came out. I’ve read nine books by Lauren so far, and have plans to binge some more. Most read authorsJay Crownover is one of my go-to authors for grown-up romances with emotions and complications. Her Marked Men series is one of my FAVORITES, and her Welcome to the Point series is not shabby at all either. I’ve read eight books of hers, a ninth is on its way to me RIGHT NOW, and she’s got a new series set in the same world as Marked Men starting next year. GIMME THEM ALLLLL. Most read authorsDUH BC HARRY POTTER. I do have a few of the supplemental books–like BEEDLE THE BARD, etc.–but haven’t read them yet. I also haven’t read any of her newer adult books (I probably won’t). She’s basically only Harry Potter to me. Most read authorsI’ve read seven books by Diana Gabaldon, and that’s only because I haven’t cracked open WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD, book 8 in the Outlander series, yet. Don’t worry, though. I will. It’s one of my favorite series. Most read authorsGayle, Gayle, Gayle. Obviously I love her books. Not obviously (to me, anyway), I’ve read six of her books. Had no idea. There were a bunch of authors on my list with six books read, but I wanted to highlight Gayle because, one, she’s fantastic; and, two, because I didn’t even realize I owned six of her books. But I do, so YAY!Most read authorsGEORGEEEEEE, GIMME MORE BOOKS TO READ!! He’s another six-booker on my list, and that’s only because I’ve read THE ICE DRAGON. Like other fans of A Song of Ice and Fire, I am waiting impatiently for this tally to increase by one. Most read authorsAnother surprise! I feel like I talk a lot about not having read a lot of Sarah Dessen’s books, and in the grand scheme of things, I haven’t really. According to Goodreads, she’s written 26 books, so that leaves me with 20 more to go. Honestly, realizing that I’ve made a bigger dent in her catalog is pretty exciting because there’s so many more books of hers that I’m looking forward to.

Top Ten Tuesday | All-Time Favorite Authors

Top Ten All-Time Favorite Authors

Would you guys believe me when I tell you that this list was actually really hard? ALL-TIME FAVORITE? That’s a huge deal. How do I determine this? Author’s I read and loved when I was a wee thing whose work has stuck with me? Authors I love who are still writing books? Author’s who’ve written my favorite books, but maybe not necessarily authors whose entire catalog I’ve read? THE DECISIONS! So I kind of just threw a list together. I still think it’s a pretty accurate list, though. BUT AHH THE PRESSURE!

TTT_grrmIt’s only been about four years since I started reading A Song of Ice and Fire, but it’s already assumed a huge role in my fandom life. When I first read these books, I hadn’t started blogging yet and I read nothing else–literally–for almost a year. I completely immersed myself in the world of Westeros and House Stark and dragons and The Wall. Any time the world-building in a book is this good and this consuming, I’ll be that author’s biggest fan for always.

TTT_dianaLike there’s any way the author who created James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser wasn’t going to be on this list. You guys know me better than that, I hope. On a serious note, I can pinpoint my love for all things Scottish to the Outlander series. For real. And I love the relationship that Diana has crafted between Jamie and Claire.

TTT_maggieI’ve read all of Maggie’s currently released work, and her books are some of my all-time favorites. If you guys can tell me the last time I went more than a week or two without mentioning THE SCORPIO RACES, I’ll be shocked. I feel like I talk about it all the time. Understandable, though, once you’ve read it and met Puck Connolly and Sean Kendrick. I LOVE Maggie Stiefvater. There’s nothing she could write that I wouldn’t want to read.

TTT_jk rowlingWhat do you guys think the odds are of basically every Top Ten Tuesday including J.K. Rowling on it? I think those odds are high. Although she’s on my list of all-time favorite authors, I basically only mean Harry Potter. I don’t really have any desire to read her adult books. Soooo, take from that what you will, but I can’t have this list without J.K. Rowling on it.

TTT_jandy nelsonJandy Nelson has written only two books, but they’ve both been so lovely and so heartbreaking and have stayed with me so long that I can’t NOT have her on my list of all-time favorite authors. She cemented her place on this list after just one book!

TTT_rothfussI’m getting the feeling that a lot of authors on this list are here because their characters are some of the most amazing I’ve ever read, and Patrick Rothfuss is no exception. Kvothe is in a league all his own, but I also love Wil and Simmon and Fela (let’s just pretend that Denna doesn’t really exist, mmkay?). Like GRRM, Patrick Rothfuss is on this list as much for Kvothe as he is for his stellar world-building. If I could live in the world where Kvothe lives, I’d be a happy camper.

TTT_kristin cashoreI’m getting ants in my pants for something new from Kristin Cashore. GRACELING was one of the first YA books I ever read, and it essentially hooked me. I loved all three books in that series for different reasons, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the announcement of her next book ever since.

TTT_morgan matsonWhen I try and think of an author who’s a sure thing, Morgan Matson is one that usually comes to mind pretty quickly. I just LOVE her stories and her characters and her everything. I’ve been moved by all of her books, and I just can’t gobble her books up fast enough. GIMME ALL OF THEM.

TTT_tolkienWhen I was younger, I didn’t really read a lot of fantasy, which seems crazy because I love it so much now. It’s probably a cliche that Tolkien is on this list but he really deserves a spot. I read The Lord of the Rings in college (*piles on more cliche*) and would, like, stay home on the weekends while my friends went out drinking so that I could read these books in peace. This was also right around the time when the movies were coming out, so I was totally invested. If I’d never read these books, I’m not sure how my love of the genre would exist.

TTT_rainbowTalk about an author whose work is super poignant and lovely. I don’t think I’ve ever read a Rainbow Rowell book and not been moved by it. I’ve laughed and swooned and cried–basically I run the gamut of feels when I read her stuff. I have just one book from her catalog left to read (THE ATTACHMENTS), and I have to admit that I’m a little nervous about CARRY ON. But one thing that all of the authors on this list share is their instant readability for me: I’ll never not read a book they write. Rainbow is a “no duh” author for me.

Top Ten Authors I Own the Most

Woo I like this list, friends! You know why? Because my answers are going to be really different. A lot of times with Top Ten Tuesdays I feel like my answers are always the same books. Not this week! My most-books-owned authors are completely different from the norm. YAY! The only thing is that I only have nine authors here, and that’s because I had a TON of authors who I own the same number of books for and I didn’t feel like including them all here.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 8 novels in the Bridgertons series

If you love historical romance, then don’t pass by Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series. They’re seriously fun and funny and you’ll love this crazy huge family forever.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 10 currently released Pink Carnation books

More historical romance! Huzzah! I’m two books behind with this series, but I love them. Very fun, very sexy, and they have a slightly different structure than most historical romances: there’s also a contemporary framing device. Not always my favorite part, but it’s something interesting!

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 7 Harry Potter books

Of course J.K. is on this list. I even own more than one copy of some of the Harry Potter books. Next purchase? AUDIOBOOKS. Bring it.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 5 Percy Jackson books, 2 Kane Chronicles books, 4 Heroes of Olympus books

WOW, Rick Riordan has a lot of books out. Obviously, I love Percy Jackson. The Kane Chronicles wasn’t as good as the other two series, in my opinion, so I’m missing the last book in that series, but Percy and the Heroes of Olympus series are both excellent. I am dying for his Viking series, though. DYINGGGG VIKINGSSSS.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 5 currently released A Song of Ice and Fire books, plus 3 graphic novels

WORD, I’m a fan of graphic novel versions of my favorite books. I still need to read these graphic novel versions, but I just like knowing I have them.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 8 currently released Outlander novels, plus one audiobook

The 8th book in this series–one of my FOREVER favorites–just came out so I haven’t read it yet, but I already love the look of it. And obviously I’m beyond stoked for the show.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 4 Wolves of Mercy Falls books, 4 copies of THE SCORPIO RACES (one audiobook, one eBook, two print), and the first 2 books in The Raven Boys series plus an audiobook of THE RAVEN BOYS

WHEW. So, I own lots of Maggie books. Mostly because I love her, and because THE SCORPIO RACES is one of my very favoritest books. I’ll be buying the audio of THE DREAM THIEVES as well for a reread.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: All 21 currently released Stephanie Plum books

I’m way behind on reading these, but I do own them all. My mom and sister read these books, too, so they’re all caught up. I’m just about ready for this series to be finished, though.

Top Ten TuesdayBooks owned: the first 10 books in the Amelia Peabody series

I haven’t read books in this series in a long time, but they’re super fun. Historical fiction, Egyptology, mysteries. This series has 19 books in it, and they kind of follow the same structure, but the characters are whip-smart and funny. Good times!
