Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant to Read But Didn’t
WOOO, this list could’ve been as long as the last one. Lots of fantasies, too! What was I doing in 2015 not reading these? Does anyone know? Anyway, these 2015 releases are on my priority to read list for 2016. If we get to December and I’m still behind on some of these, you guys have to let me know.
The Rose Society: The Young Elites #2 by Marie Lu | I enjoyed THE YOUNG ELITES, especially the ending. LIKE, WHOA. I meant to hop onto this sequel ASAP. Alas.
The Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby | I do always like Jessi Kirby’s books, guys, so I generally buy them whenever they come out. This one’s been sitting in a pile for months.
Ice Like Fire: Snow Like Ashes #2 by Sara Raasch | I have to admit, there were times when I was reading SNOW LIKE ASHES where I thought the worldbuilding was a little juvenile. But the characters and the plot made up for it, and I’m really excited to see where things go in book 2.
Shadow Scale: Seraphina #2 by Rachel Hartman | Guys, I reread SERAPHINA last year in preparation for reading SHADOW SCALE. Didn’t happen.
Blood and Salt: Blood and Salt #1 by Kim Liggett | Scary books and I sometimes get along really well, but this one name-drops Children of the Corn and Romeo and Juliet. Ok. Say no more.
Their Fractured Light: Starbound #3 by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner | This series has really gotten me hooked on sci-fi. I’m not usually a huge lover of space and aliens, these books have really made it exciting.
Until We Meet Again by Renee Collins | Alyssa read this one a few months ago and told me I’d love it. That’s all I need to hear.
The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan | I have a HUGE soft spot for royals. I’m just kind of infatuated with them as a group. I’ve also heard nothing but positive things about THE ROYAL WE. Lauren from Bookmark Lit even got me a copy (WOO!), so I didn’t really have any excuse.
Court of Fives: Court of Fives #1 by Kate Elliott | Kate Elliott is one of those fantasy authors that I’m DYING to read. I’ve heard some maybe mixed things about her YA debut, but I still want to give it a go.
The Sword of Summer: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #1 by Rick Riordan | DUH. Need it, even though it’s probably basically the same as Percy Jackson but with Norse gods.
The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett | I meant to read this book towards the end of this year–I even carted it with me to Friendsgiving in November–but I never got to it. It sounds like a really emotional contemp, and I’m all about those.
The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes | I keep hearing good things about this cultish sounding story. I saw someone reading it at ALA this past weekend and was like, “OH! Right! I need to read that!” Because I do.
Loved your list! I want to read Blood and Salt too, but I didn’t get to it either.
I got The Sword of Summer for my sister for Christmas and then proceeded to read it. It is similar to the Percy Jackson series though I find Magnus Chase to be funnier than Percy. I also recently got Their Fractured Light from the library and it was a great conclusion to the series. I hope you love them when you pick them up.
Thanks for sharing!
I love the, “Read me now, slacker”. I’m pretty sure my books would think that about me… all the time. ☺
I really, really want to read The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly as well. It sounds fantastic!
Great list! I wanted to get to Ice like Fire and Blood and Salt too but didn’t! Particularly Ice like Fire. I loved the first one. And I LOVED Minnow Bly! Definitely read that one soon! 😛 I did read Shadow Scale and gotta say I wasn’t impressed 🙁 I’d be interested to see what you thought, though!
i’ve been meaning to read the sacred lies of minnow bly. too. i’ve had it checked out from the library for the past two weeks and i haven’t even touched it yet – thanks for reminding me!
Shadow Scale was pretty good! I like how the world opened up a bit more, and I liked meeting some new characters to love. Their Fractured Light was AMAZING. It’s a great series ender, and I really enjoyed finding out how everything would conclude! Court of Fives, while not perfect, was definitely enjoyable; I’m looking forward to the sequel. The Sword of Summer was hilarious and fun, and just so easy to read! You’ll enjoy that one. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart was definitely a surprise – it was really great!
I also need to read Ice Like Fire! I want to see how Raasch continues this story.
I have no excuse for The Royal We either, it’s at the top of my list to read this year!!! And I’m excited for Court of Fives, Lisa gave me a copy in November, can’t wait to read it. Still need to read the Starbound trilogy and Snow Like Ashes myself. There are always so many books to get to!
I’ve had a copy of Until We Meet Again for a while now, but I somehow haven’t read it! I should definitely get to that, it’s been out for months. I have read Shadow Scale, it was a really enjoyable conclusion, though there were some issues with pacing.
Good luck with your 2016 reads!
I really want to read A Court of Fives too. Hopefully this year!
