Friends, it’s probably no secret that I ADORE Ellie Marney’s Every series. I love it so much that I bought all three books from it’s Australian publisher and DEVOURED the story of Mycroft and Watts. Because I love this story and these characters SO MUCH OMG, I jumped at the chance to participate in the North American blog tour for book 2, EVERY WORD. Guys, this book is everything. (The whole series is everything.)
I’m so excited to spread the word about this series!! Which is why I’m giving away ONE set of the first two books in this series! Check out the giveaway below my review!
James Mycroft has just left for London to investigate a car accident similar to the one that killed his parents seven years ago…without saying goodbye to Rachel Watts, his ‘partner in crime’.
Rachel is furious and worried about his strange behaviour – not that Mycroft’s ever exactly normal, but London is the scene of so many of his nightmares. So Rachel jumps on a plane to follow him…and lands straight in a whole storm of trouble.
The theft of a copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio, the possible murder of a rare books conservator, and the deaths of Mycroft’s parents…Can Watts help Mycroft make sense of the three events – or will she lose him forever?
Sparks fly when Watts and Mycroft reunite in this second sophisticated thriller about the teen sleuthing duo.
Friends, I LOVED the first book in the Every series by Ellie Marney, EVERY BREATH, which introduced the world to James Mycroft and Rachel Watts. In an attempt to avoid spoiling too many things, I’ll give you all a basic rundown: Mycroft and Watts are bffs, but also a little more than that because FEELINGS. Mycroft lives in Melbourne, but was born and grew up in London with his parents until their deaths. As a genius socially awkward human, Mycroft has all kinds of theories about it, and while he and Watts try to puzzle out other murders, he obsesses over learning the truth about his parents. It’s all pretty much the best ever.
EVERY WORD finds Watts and Mycroft at a crossroads in their relationship and at a turning point in Mycroft’s feverish quest to discover what really led to his parents’ deaths. Despite things with the two of them going REALLY well (I ship these two forever and ever), Mycroft up and LEAVES AUSTRALIA to investigate a car accident that bears lots of similarities to the one that killed his parents. In London. Because Rachel is fierce and devoted, she follows him, and the two wind up investigating the accident and the theft of one of Shakespeare’s Folios together.
I’ve said it before (just in the last paragraph, in fact), but I ADORE Mycroft and Watts. Not only because they are incredibly smart and savvy teens, but because they are connected to each other on a pretty deep level. The foundation of their pairing is their maybe unlikely, given Mycroft’s tendency towards oddness and social ineptness, friendship and it shows in the way they interact and stand by one another. The tension and the feelings these two characters generate are enormous; you can’t hide from them.
The drama that they find themselves embroiled in in EVERY WORD amps up their connection while also driving the story forward. Mycroft and Watts uncover new twists regarding his family’s car accident while investigating the newer accident and the theft of the Folio. Things get pretty DIRE there for a second as well, and all through it, the bond that the two of them share is so strong.
I can’t lie: there are times in EVERY WORD when Mycroft drove me a little nuts. He’s secretive and scattered, and HELLO, he leaves Rachel and Australia without saying ANYTHING. But mostly I just adore him. And Rachel…you guys, Rachel Watts is such a badass, but with a kind heart. She follows Mycroft to London partly because she knows he’ll need support from her in more ways than one. She’s also MAD AS HELL, though, and I love that she doesn’t just say, “I’m mad at you! NOT GOING TO HELP YOU.” It’s like, “I love you, you huge pain in my ass. Now I have to follow you half way across the world because I don’t have other things to do, like school.” She’s amazing.
The bottom line, guys, is EVERY WORD is an excellent sequel to EVERY BREATH. There’s danger, mystery, romance, feelings, and one of the greatest ships of all time. I can’t recommend it enough.

Special thanks to Tundra Books for including me in the blog tour for this awesome book!
I really, really want to give this series a shot! I’ve heard nothing but really good things about it from my friends (you included!), so it’s definitely getting higher on the list of books I ought to check out 😉
I borrowed Every Breath from my library and when I returned it to my librarian I told her about the tour this week and encouraged her to introduce the book to as many teens as possible.
This is a great series and I so love both Watts and Mycroft. Glad to be on the tour with you.
