Nookish No. 3 | Beach Nook

NookishAhhh, summer. Can’t let this pass me by without at least one beachy book nook! I want to BE in this nook RIGHT NOW reading these books and relaxing.

THE MOON & MORE • Sarah Dessen | I’ve been really feeling Sarah Dessen lately, guys. I haven’t read even half of her books, but the more of them I do read, the bigger fan I become. This especially applies to her newer books. (Some of the older ones I’ve read didn’t click with me as much.) THE MOON & MORE was not only emotional and complicated and thoughtful, it was also an awesome snapshot of Colby, North Carolina, fake-but-enchanting beach town extraordinaire.

WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE • Huntley Fitzpatrick | GAH I loved this book. I don’t think I ever reviewed it properly on the blog, but I’m going to be rereading it this summer, so I probably will. New England beach towns are my kind of place, guys, and Huntley Fitzpatrick does this one really well. Also, SWOONS.

THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY • Jenny Han | This whole series is really great. Not fluffy, really, and pretty heartbreaking at times, but it’s got another great beachy setting to go along with the romantic complications, family troubles, death, grief, sadness, etc. Unfortunately, it also features one of the most annoying character nicknames of all time: Belly (vom).

What are some of your favorite beachy reads?

  1. Ooh, I like how nice and bright that nook looks! It’d be nice to read with such a view. Okay, so these books. I still haven’t read anything by Jenny Han but I’ve heard lots of good things. I read MY LIFE NEXT DOOR at the end of the year last year and LOVED it, and I have got to make some time to read WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE. I got an ARC of THE MOON AND MORE and started it like two years ago…and still haven’t finished it. I don’t know WHY. It just wasn’t my favorite, and it’s the only Sarah Dessen book I haven’t read (or finished, really). I see that you don’t like her older ones as much, but the ones I like the least tend to have less focus on romance. My favorites are, in orderish: ALONG FOR THE RIDE, THIS LULLABY (a VERY close second), THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER, and JUST LISTEN. I think. I really need to do a reread of all her books soon! Fun post!

  2. I’ve read on the beach once and I was reading one of the books from the Vampire Academy series by Richelle mead (it was such a long time ago that I forgot which one specifically lol) honestly it wasn’t a great experience for me since it was very hard to concentrate on the book while I was enjoying my time during the beach with my family, so I never did it again… Although a book that I would recommend for a beach read would be Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian! It’s great and it definitely has that summer beach vibe thing going on and the setting is great too!

  3. Oh, I LOVE this pairing! This beach nook looks perfectly cozy, and the book choices for it are SPOT ON.

  4. Now all I’m thinking about is how much I wish I was reading at the beach! I do love contemporary at the beach, but I’ve also found myself picking up historical fiction there lately too. Something about knowing I’ve got several hours of (mostly) uninterrupted reading time makes me want to read the stuff that I’ll really get immersed in (rather than race through). I haven’t read Jenny Han’s Summer series yet, but I’m planning on it!
