In Which I Am On a Deadline That I Cannot Meet
Friends, I originally wanted to be able to read 150 books this year. But then I got a job (YAY!) and all of a sudden, my free reading time evaporated (BOO!) and I had to lower my total to 125, which I am behind on at this moment. Sad face. And listen: I would LOVE to be able to read all of these books here before December 31, but I have not made it easy for myself guys. There are some BIG BOOKS on this here list. And I’m in the middle of reading two books right now: THE MISCHIEF IN THE MISTLETOE by Lauren Willig and a reread of GRACELING by Kristin Cashore. But I will try!! Because I’m really looking forward to all of these books HARD.
Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor
Obviously. I loved DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE lots and lots, and I can’t wait to see what happens with Karou and Akiva. And Laini Taylor is one of the prettiest writers there is.
The Crimson Crown (Seven Realms #4) by Cinda Williams Chima
I can’t believe I just FINALLY got to this series this year! But I’m glad I did. It’s a solid fantasy with great characters, and I am both excited and full of sadz that this is the last book.
The Assassin’s Curse (The Assassin’s Curse #1) by Cassandra Rose Clarke
I’m sorry, did you say pirates and assassins AND a curse? Yes? Oh ok. Then yes, I DO need to read this book ASAP. Thank you.
Stealing Parker (Hundred Oaks #2) by Miranda Kenneally
I really enjoyed CATCHING JORDAN, so I’m excited about this book. But I’m also really looking forward to the whole “macking it with my teacher/authority figure” thing going on here. THAT sounds interesting.
Mastiff (Beka Cooper #3) by Tamora Pierce
SIGH. I’ve owned this book for two years now and I still haven’t read it. Which makes NO SENSE because I love Tamora and I love Beka. Alas. Keeps falling through the cracks.
The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
Because I gotta keep up with Joneses sometimes. Literally ALL THE PEOPLE who have read this book that I know have basically DIED from how much they loved it. I don’t think there’s a better way to recommend a book to me.
How about you guys? Any books you are unquestionably going to force yourself to read before year end?
Ahh I wanted to read Days of Blood and Starlight as well but I want to re-read DoSaB first and I know that I won’t get to it this year…bummer! Also I am going to try SO HARD to read The Sea of Tranquility before the end of the year.
I had originally started with 100 books for this year and I just couldn’t do it once the school year started for me again so I brought it down to 75 and I am “right on track” (thanks, Goodreads!) So now I have to just get through I think 6 more books and I will make it…WHEW! But also kinda sad that I only made it through 75 books in a year…Oh well!!
I want to read The Sea of Tranquility so bad! I requested it from Edelweiss before I saw it was on NetGalley, so I’m still waiting, fingers crossed! And I’m totally feeling you on DoSaB reread. I wish I had more time! WAH!
I’m so bummed at how much reading time I lost this year, Alyssa. Like, I don’t know what to do with myself now that I can’t read books all day, lol.
I’m all for you reading The Sea of Tranquility ASAP! (Does this surprise you? Probably not.)
No, haha. I’m waiting to get approved! Although I can’t tell you how close I’ve come to buying to kindle version just to have it already! I’m so looking forward to it!
Over the last few days I’ve been hearing how amazing The Sea of Tranquility is too. I quitely got it from Netgalley, and hope to read it too. I try to keep up with the Joneses, too, as long as the book looks like something I would enjoy ๐
It’s crazy the number of people who’ve read it and loved it, right?! I feel like so many people can’t be wrong! It sounds very angsty, and I’m in the mood for some of that right now. I hope you love it too!
I must read The Perks of Being a Wallflower; A Storm of Swords; Over Sea, Under Stone; Green Lantern/Green Arrow; and Unaccustomed Earth.
AH! I’m so with you on Perks of a Wallflower! I’ve been wanting to read it for a while, but every time I saw a preview for the movie it made me want to read it even more. Good luck with your list!
!! So happy that you’re reading The Mischief of the Mistletoe, it was so much fun! Have you read the other books in the series? I’m planning to start The Secret History of the Pink Carnation after I finish A Christmas Carol.
Good luck on getting through your list–it’s a great one! I like that you’ve got older books like Mastiff on it as well as 2012 releases. I’m almost done with my must read list, but I started early. ๐
Heidi, I’m loving it. I have actually read all of the other books–they’re such wonderful fun. They have a little different thing going on with the contemporary framing story, but I like it. I can’t wait to see what you think of them.
Mastiff is going down, hopefully soon! Honestly. TWO YEARS I’ve had it! I hope you finish your list!
Oooh, I didn’t realize there was a contemp frame story, I’m actually glad for the heads up on that.
Just have to finish Vessel and I’m good! I mean, yeah, there’s others I’d like to get to, but that’s the last of my *omg this could be a favorite* books.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of Days of Blood and Starlight ๐
I can’t wait to read it! I love Laini Taylor!
OH you can totally do this! GET IT GIRL
I never do TBR lists because knowing myself I will read everything except what’s on the list. I’m very (annoyingly) contrary like that. That said, I, too, have to read Seven Realms books 3 and 4. I shall enjoy them. And I just read The Sea of Tranquility. It was fantastic. Assassin’s Curse is fun enough in a light way. Have fun reading!
