Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday‘s on their site!

*rubs hands maniacally* GUYS. This TTT is something that I think about all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. Mostly because I’m a pretty egregious offender when it comes to unfinished series. Which, truthfully, is only because of a time shortage on my part, rather than an interest shortage. It goes without saying that the fact that I can even make this list is a point of much displeasure to me. I’m also trying (but sometimes failing) to stick to series that are already published in full. Can’t hold it against me that I haven’t finished reading a series that is still being written! Also, you know what would be an even WORSE list than this? Series that I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED YET. *shivers*

Beka Cooper by Tamora Pierce

Sigh. Tamora is perpetually one of my sticking points. She has SO MANY books to read! But the Beka Cooper series is the one that needs some finishing on my part. I’ve read Terrier and Bloodhound, but I’ve had MASTIFF–the last book in the trilogy–for going on two years now, and I still haven’t read it yet. Sigh.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

So I know that this series isn’t technically finished yet, but I’m pretty much stalled out after book 3, CITY OF GLASS. The idea of picking these books up again after such a long break is kind of daunting to me. Plus Cassandra Clare is ALL OVER my TBR: I still haven’t started The Infernal Devices, either. Whoops!

The Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter

I’m pretty excited to keep reading this series about spies and conspiracies and all kinds of cray goodness. Show me a book about some kind of unsavory/shady biz–mob, spies, thieves, etc.–and I’m ALL OVER IT.

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pulman

I just recently read the first book in this series, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, and it was good. I’m not in a mad rush to read the rest of the series, but I know that I want to. The world-building is so creative and clever! And the end of THE GOLDEN COMPASS certainly made me curious about where things are going.

He’s So/She’s So by Kieran Scott

The drama in this series is so bananas. It’s a  little over the top–mean girls, rich bored kids, family issues, love triangles, cheating, lies, and more. Plus it takes place in Jersey in places that I know, and I will always get behind representing the hometown. I only have the last book–THIS IS SO NOT HAPPENING–left, and I feel like it’s going to be the most bananas of them all. Obviously, I’m anticipating some trashy teenage shenanigans!

The Bridgertons by Julia Quinn

I’m nearly done with this awesome historical romance series (I’m reading #6 right now), so it’s place on this list is not long for this world. Seriously. If you are a fan of historical romances or are looking for a series to get in to, start these books. They’re funny and sweet and have excellent sexytimes. LOVE the Bridgertons.

Gemma Doyle by Libba Bray

Guys, I’m not so sure that I’ll ever finish this series, but never say never. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book, but I liked it enough. I like the witchiness and the fairy business, so…fingers crossed!

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

This is one of those series that I really enjoyed and then just…I don’t know. It slipped through the cracks. I’ve only read the first book, but I liked it! Unfortunately, I read it so long ago that I don’t think I could just pick up number 2 and have any idea what’s going on. I need a refresh. But I’d love to finish this series. Eventually.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

SIGH. Friends, this is one of my all-time FAVORITE series. Favorite. I just love all the things about it. The history, the drama, the romance, the time travel, the SCOTTISH GINGERS. Everything. Alas, I am stuck on book 7. WAH! It’s a doorstop, guys! I need to get on it. Book 8 is coming out soon, and I just need to know what happens to Jamie and Claire.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

BITTERBLUE. I own it, I am looking forward to it, it looks pretty on my shelf. I WILL READ IT. I just feel like I need to be in the mood for it. Also, I’m a little worried about some of the “meh” reviews I’ve been hearing. But I will never give up on Kristin Cashore, so you can bet that I’ll be reading the last book in this series SOON.

Comments

  1. I’m in the same boat with you on Bitterblue. Nice list. I’m a much more fickle reader and promptly abandon any series I’m not enjoying 🙂

  2. The Gallagher Girls series is really good, I’m sure once you start them you will be hooked

  3. I went the “haven’t even started” route with this week’s TTT and it was absolutely painful. Though in good news, there is a lot to look forward to! The only series on your list that I have finished is the His Dark Materials trilogy – I listened to the audiobooks back when I had a long commute so went through them pretty fast. Will have to reread some day! Have fun finishing that series (and all the others too)!

  4. If you just get used to the fact that Bitterblue is a different type heroine than Katsa or Fire, you’ll enjoy Bitterblue. I did! 🙂

  5. Hahah I love your little intro paragraph! That’s totally how I feel too, and I’m SO ashamed of how many books I have sitting on my shelves that I haven’t even gotten to. And I own them!

  6. It breaks my heart to see you haven’t finished a Tamora Pierce of Kristin Cashore series. BREAKS. MY. HEART. Pleeeeeease read them!

  7. We definitely have some similarities in the series we haven’t finished.

First, I just recently read A Great and Terrible Beauty, and although I think it was written very well, and the story was interesting, I was not in love with any of the characters. Even Gemma. So I probably won’t finish the series, either.

Secondly, YAY Julia Quinn! I’m a huge fan of hers. My fave Bridgerton books are The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and Romancing Mr. Bridgerton (OF COURSE!). The other Bridgerton books I liked, but didn’t love. But I think my favorite JQ book is How to Marry a Marquis. I’m madly in love with James. MADLY! Plus, it is hilarious, and it has Lady Danbury! I also really like What Happens in London. It’s just so fun. Have you read other JQ books besides the Bridgertons?

Oh, and His Dark Materials is wonderful. I read The Golden Compass for a YA Lit class in grad school, and I liked it, and the ending was – wow! But I listened (via audiobook) to The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, and was blown away. I hope you give the other ones a try, because the whole series is remarkable.

    Awesome list! Here’s my TTT

  8. Paranormalcy is on my list, too. I thought the first book was cute and fun, and then I lost the motivation to continue on… and I doubt that I’ll get to it now. So many new and wonderful books have cropped up in the meantime…

    Great list! Thanks for sharing.

  9. Loved Bitterblue and the Gemma Doyle series! I didn’t finish the other Dark Material books either, and you really need to read The Infernal Devices. I thought they were even better than The Mortal Instruments. Great list! 😀

    My TTT

  10. GAH I still need to read Bitterblue too!

I’ve got loads of unfinished series too…but many of them are just one shy! I WILL MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
