Friends, Cat Crawford is a great character. She’s got a really great sense of humor and is frank and lovely. She handles being unceremoniously dumped in Renaissance Florence pretty well, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a TON of stuff to get accustomed to without letting on that she’s FROM THE FUTURE. Cat was awesome enough to answer some of my questions about her little gypsy-induced trip. Check it out!

So, Cat, I know you weren’t in Renaissance Florence for very long. What was one thing that you wish you had been able to do or see that you missed?

Good question! Hmm, well I met my idol, which rocked, and I pretty much got baptized by fire with all things Renaisssance like, so I don’t really think I missed out on much.

I guess it’s not so much what I missed or didn’t get to do, as it is wanting more. I wish I could’ve spent even more time with my family there and Lorenzo. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m SO glad I got out when I did! But if things had been different, it would’ve been nice to spend a few extra stress-free days with them.

Not to knock on Renaissance Florence or anything, but now that you’ve done the time traveling thing once, if you could go anywhere/anytime else, where/when would you go?

Well I’m an art-geek, so that definitely the ultimate for me. But if I had to pick another time in history to explore, it would be France circa the late 1800s….the stomping ground of another one of my favorite artists, Edgar Degas.

Be honest: how painful was that corset? Scale of 1 to 10, one being sweatpants comfortable, 10 being, well, a really tight corset.

Dude, a 12 !! (~laughs~) Okay, maybe it wasn’t that bad, but it was definitely no picnic. After a while, it got a little better, and as the night went on, I got somewhat used to it, but yeah. That sucked.

How come you never really got around to sketching anything while you were in Florence? Was there ever a time when you felt the urge to draw something most keenly? What was it? (Three-fer of questions!)

I actually did sketch a little, the morning after the ball. Everyone was still sleeping, the house was quiet, and I’d just had the most awesome night of my life, so I definitely felt that urge to attempt to capture it on paper. The drawing ended up being the best thing I’ve ever done, so I must’ve soaked up some of that Renaissance mojo while I was there….and my subject, Lorenzo, was inspirational himself. (*grin*)

Now that you’ve met some of your mother’s ancestors, what’s your best guess at what your father’s ancestors would be like?

Oh wow, cool question. Dad’s family is English, so I guess that whole bit about being from ‘London’ wasn’t too far off. And since Dad’s pretty chill, I assume they’d be the same way, too. So I change my answer from before….maybe THAT’S where I’d go on another time travel jaunt!

Men in tights: hot or not hot?

You know, it’s sooo not something I would’ve thought was hot BEFORE my trip, but on the right guy? Totally HOT!

Finally, the big one: You HAVE to choose between living in Florence of the past or Los Angeles of now. You won’t be able to change your mind or visit whichever time you don’t choose. Which time/place would you pick?

There is so much to love about Florence of the past. My aunt and uncle. My cousins, Alessandra and Cipriano.

But as wonderful as they all are, I’d still have to choose now. Dad’s here. My life is here. Twenty-first century rules make sense….and bonus, I don’t sound like an idiot every other second.

Plus, well, for those of you who read the book, the universe throws a few expected surprises my way in the end!
