Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Blogs I Read That Aren’t About Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday‘s on their site!

So, blogs that I read that AREN’T about books. Hmmm…HARD STUFF. Perhaps “blogs” is not the right word. I follow lots of other sites, though, so I’ll probably throw some of those in there, too. Prepare for LOTS of TV stuff, friends! And also some cheating. I don’t know that I could come up with 5 blogs I read that aren’t book related. Oops! To the list!

Westeros.org. So right off the bat, I’m cheating and breaking the rules. But so much of my blog viewing is book-related that I’d be a little bit hard pressed to make this list without mentioning a few, and Westeros.org is THE HOT SPOT for A Song of Ice and Fire EVERYTHING: the books, the show, all of it. Their forums are amazing, their wiki, A Wiki of Ice and Fire, is an outstanding resource for nerds and newbies, and Elio and Linda are legit EXPERTS. George R.R. Martin HIMSELF consults them on stuff when HE gets confused.

The Ausiello Files/Inside TV. Prepare for some naming confusion, friends! Because I don’t understand why this blog still has this name in my reader either (Inside TV is what it’s actually called now in real life). It’s hosted by Entertainment Weekly, one of my go-to, everyday sites. This is basically TV spoiler stuff, interviews, etc. All great. Except Michael Ausiello, the blog’s namesake, left EW a few years ago and runs his own website, TV Line, now. Whatevs. I need to keep up on my shows, guys, and this blog under any name is still one of my faves.

Thank you, clouds! From THXTHXTHX.

THXTHXTHX. This blog is FANTASTIC. It’s a young woman whose mother always told her that she had to write thank you notes for everything. So Leah–that’s the lady who has all the THX–is taking her mother’s advice to heart and handwriting thank you notes for all kinds of things. Isn’t this the best sentiment ever?! Her home page right now thanks the following: a girl who always wears high tops, doing fewer THX notes, Alison Bedchel, her scanner, birds, people sitting near her who are speaking different languages, sirens, bone earrings, and MORE. It’s random, awesome, heartfelt, fun, and touching. Also, short and sweet. LOVE IT.

Kickette. Guys, I LOVE sports. Love ’em. Expect to see some more sporty things here. But Kickette is a guilty pleasure like I don’t even KNOW. I’m not the biggest follower of soccer/football, but I know what’s what, and this site focuses on the important things: WAGs, money, hot pictures of hot international football players on vacation/on the pitch/on the street/doing the walk of shame without pants, gossip, scandal, and pictures of footie players’ cute babies. Plus, I love the snark and the shamelessness of Kickette. SERIOUSLY. These girls know what they’re doing.

1000 Awesome Things. THIS BLOG. I have never read one of these thoughtful, funny little gems about why LIFE is ALL THE THINGS and not felt some emotion. I laugh a lot, cry sometimes, reminisce often, and agree ALWAYS. They reached #1,000 last month, but I’m not sleeping on this blog, friends. It’s feel-good internets!

1001 Rules for my Unborn Son. So I’m not having a baby or anything, nor would I be a FATHER writing something for his son, but this blog is pretty rad. It’s basically a guy who’s making all of these general rules for living to tell his son. Things like how to tie knots, what to do when you get caught in a riptide, the importance of shaking hands firmly, not hesitating to ask the pretty girl on a date. That kind of stuff. TOTALLY not applicable to me, but I like it anyways. It’s practical and sweet at the same time.

GUYS. This is ALL PAPER. Amazing.

Yulia Broadskaya. So this isn’t a blog; it’s a website. But LISTEN, guys. Yulia Broadskaya is AMAZING. Have you guys ever heard of quilling? Have you ever been sitting in school and been BORED in class and taken your pen or pencil and twirled a thin scrap of notebook paper around it so that it winds up in this crazy curly cue? No? Just me? Well that’s too bad because that’s basically quilling, except REAL quilling is GORGEOUS, and Yulia is THE BEST. SERIOUSLY. PLEASE check out her stuff. It’s stunning.

Plenty of Color. I stalk this blog for my Pinterest boards. And also because I love the COLORS and the PRETTY. Sometimes it gets a little graphic designer sobbish, but I still love it. I always find things to pin on here!

Buster Olney’s ESPN blog. I love baseball SO MUCH friends that I PAY to be able to read Buster’s stuff. He’s in the middle of just about everything that ever goes on in baseball. Plus his daily posts are full of linkish goodness basically outlining ALL THE THINGS that happened/are happening/might happen in the future each day during the season. Also, he grew up on a farm. Y’all KNOW I love farms.

The Dreamer. Look at me, bending the rules!! The author/illustrator of this webcomic set in both contemporary time and during the American Revolution is AWESOME and her work satisfies lots of my Colonial America nerdery. It’s basically the story of a contemporary high school girl who has real life ish to deal with, but also has these really vivid, VERY real dreams about what I’m guessing is her past life during the American Revolution, where she falls for this hottie blond solider (OBVS). It’s so good!

Comments

  1. I LOVE THE DREAMER! I’ve fallen behind on it because of RL, but it’s one of my favourite webcomics <3

  2. 1,000 awesome things? I’ll have to check that out! 🙂

  3. I think I’m a little jealous of your Top Ten… these are all fantastic blogs and websites! And the Kickette one? I, sadly I suppose, am super involved in the world of soccer/football… mainly because of my little sister who is OBSESSED with it. I’ll have to see if she’s seen this website. She likes to drool all over hot international soccer players.

  4. I’ve never heard of ANY of these! Wow, I’m gonna be doing a whole lot of interneting today checking out all of these awesome sites 🙂

    Fun list!

  5. Thanks for sharing these fantastic sites 🙂

  6. Best list ever! Love almost all these blogs – they keep me up at night when I should be asleep.
