BIG DAY at Amy’s house today, friends. Big day. I’m even wearing my House Stark shirt in celebration and honor (because, in the end, the Starks are always right. Winter Is Coming). I can’t describe to you how HARD I nerd Game of Thrones, both the TV show and the books on which it is based. So when I first found out the release date of the TV show’s first season on DVD, I preordered that shizz. And, friends, the DVDs arrived in the mail today.
Because HBO is BOSS and because the world of ASoIaF is so vibrant and fully imagined, there’s all manner of teeny awesome things about the DVDs (and one SUPER COOL thing that is nergasm-worthy. To me, anyway). And because I have nowhere else to fly my nerd flag, you guys are just going to have to indulge me a few images and some mild-to-obscene gushing. If you don’t mind. Ok? I THANK YOU in advance. (Also, you can click on any of the images to enbiggen them!)
*Trumpets blaring!!* *Throws confetti!!* TAH-DAH!! Game of Thrones DVDs!! I maintain that this picture of Ned on the Iron Throne is one of the BAMFiest promo images EVER.
SEAN BEAN!! A couple pictures of the DVD and the case. The actual DVDs are encased in the fold-out holder with these GREAT huge images of the main characters.
Tyrion Mother-Effing Lannister, looking pensive and getting ready to no doubt astound us all with a witticism or a genius SNEAKY plan involving the eventual paying of a debt.
JON SNOW!! *drools* Guys, Jon Snow is my favorite character in the books. I have so many THEORIES about him that I can’t share for fear of spoilers, but he is a badass. He’s like a Westerosi hipster with his shaggy, unkempt hair and emo brooding. I LOVES HIM. Hard.
There are 5 discs, each of them featuring a sigil of one of the main houses that appear in season 1: Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen, and Arryn. ALSO, fellow nerds? There’s Bonus Features ON EVERY DISC. Every. Stinking. One. HOLLA!
The accompanying Episode Guide has a nice stash of nerd-goodies, like these family trees, complete with pictures. So awesome, and so helpful for keeping track of folks.
AHHHHH!!!! THE MAP!!! Guys, as a lover of high fantasy I find that I am often rendered ecstatic with obsessive geekery when I see a map. In fact, it’s a pet peeve of mine when I read a fantasy that DOESN’T have a map. But this map of the Seven Kingdoms is the bomb. Seriously ENBIGGEN THIS. (Well, if you want to.) It’s so SO great.
Guys, I love this series in any incarnation. My outlets for fangirling are few, however, so this blog here is probably going to bear the brunt of my flailing and exclaiming and mild proselytizing. By all means, PLEASE feel free to fangirl with me! I can’t wait to nerd out with you!
YES. I WAS GEEKING OUT. THE MAP!!!!!
The whole thing was so well designed though and so pretty and textured and I could not stop playing with it.
JON SNOW GET IN MY PANTS.
๐ My brother pre-ordered season 1 too! My mom and I hadn’t watched it yet, so we borrowed it and we managed to finish all 10 episodes in a weekend marathon…now I’m pretty much obsessed, and I have to say, I’m loving me some Jon Snow, too! And I’ve definitely got a girl crush on Daenerys…I’m hoping eventually those two will hook up, cuz that would be freaking fantastic! I’m gonna stop now before I gush my through multiple paragraphs! ๐
Thanks for sharing your fangirl freakout, I freaked out too and I only started it a little while ago! ๐
