Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books That I’d Save From Aliens

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday‘s on their site!

So, I only get to save TEN BOOKS?? EEK! That makes me a little sad. This is the problem with reading tons of series. If I saved two of my favorites–A Song of Ice and Fire and Outlander–I’d only be able to save a portion of the books from each series. BOO. But I’m game, Top Ten Tuesday. I feel like the books already swirling around in my head are books that I not only LOVED but also can reread a bunch of times without going bananas. Because if the aliens come and destroy all of my worldly things, I’m probably going to have a shortage of books for a while. So, here we go!

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, by Rebecca Wells. My copy of this book is falling apart, I’ve read it so many times. I just love the atmosphere, the friendships, the stories. To a Jersey girl like me, the Southern-ness of these ladies seems so…exotic and heart-warming. Also, the Bloody Mary’s. Y’all, I love me a little tomato juice with my vodka!

The Sky Is Everywhere, by Jandy Nelson. I’m not sure I can talk too much more about why I would save this book from being vaporized. It’s magic. I love it. It’s gorgeous and swoony and sad and PERFECT. I’m grabbing this one, probably first.

Anna and the French Kiss, by Stephanie Perkins. *Sigh* This book is one of my favorite contemporaries. The characters are sweet and lovely and the setting is SO PERFECT. Every time I think about this book, I get butterflies and warm-fuzzies. Like, it’s happening right now.

Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. So this one is a TINY cheat, but I have a box set that is still in its box! So it’s a three-fer. (Actually, a four-fer [?] because it came with THE HOBBIT as well.) These books are so absorbing, and they are almost single-handedly responsible for turning me into a nerd. WORD.

Outlander/Dragonfly in Amber, by Diana Gabaldon. Since I can’t make off with ALL the books from the Outlander series, I’d probably be sure to take at least the first two. I love this whole series, but the first two are DEFINITELY my favorites. Oooooh, I love ’em!

Game of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin. If I’m trying to take my favorite book in this series, the one I think is the most dramatic and BANANAS, I’d be grabbing A STORM OF SWORDS. But since I’m crazy and anal and couldn’t take a book if it was out of order, I’m grabbing the first book in this series, which is MORE than enough awesome. DANG, these books are good!

Legend, by Marie Lu. I was originally going to grab a Hunger Games book, but couldn’t decide which one, and I don’t have a convenient cheat for them like I did for LoTR, so I changed my mind and went for LEGEND instead because I thought it was fantastic, and I’m totally invested. Day and June are SOLID. Big fan of this one.

Graffiti Moon, by Cath Crowley. So I just read this one and I don’t technically have a real copy of it yet. BUT I WILL, and when the UFOs land and start blowing things up, I’ll grab this one before I get the hell out of dodge. Because it’s so pretty and wonderful and gorgeous. *Sigh*

Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, by Morgan Matson. ROAD TRIP! Can’t get away without a road trip book, now can I? Especially not one as AWESOME as Amy & Roger. As it stands right now, this might be my favorite road trip book. I’m taking it!

A Harry Potter book: This is a game-time decision, guys. Because I can’t decide right now. Definitely wouldn’t be CHAMBER OF SECRETS, but very likely would be either GOBLET OF FIRE or later. GAH! I seriously can’t make up my mind. Maybe I should just get ebooks of all of them, because…

I’d also totally grab my Kindle, which is LOADED with goodies! HOLLA! Who says “Cheater’s don’t prosper?” Not this girl!

Comments

  1. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour and Graffiti Moon is just a must save! Great list!

    Drop by mine?

  2. I think everyone cheated with this list. I sure did, I can’t leave all my signed books behind that is just terrible. I even forgot to list my Collectors edition LoTR on the list.

  3. You picked some totally awesome books. Nice to see someone else who loves The Sky Is Everywhere. 😀 I love a lot of these, too. But I totally didn’t have room with the way I did the topic. I pretended *I* was going to be abducted. *laughs* Anyway, thank goodness the only thing that can make me choose like that is the size of my shelves — which don’t matter now since I have a kindle. I wouldn’t want to have to decide like that for real.

  4. You have so many great books listed here I’m not even sure where to start! Anna and the French Kiss is a book I could read over and over, so it would be an excellent choice! I just got the prettiest version of The Sky is Everywhere and although I haven’t read it yet I’d hate to see anything happen to it! Amy & Roger is one of my faves as well.

  5. That’s it… I need to read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour. I’ve driven cross country once, by myself, and it was AWESOME!!

    • Ohmygoodness, you should TOTALLY read it!! It’s so, SO good! I’ve never driven cross-country myself, so it was a nice little bit of vicarious traveling for me. But it’s GREAT.

  6. Great list 🙂 I wouldn’t be able to choose an HP book, so I just left it…

  7. I totally grabbed Anna (and HP duh) too! I think we’ll see a lot of “cheating” on this weeks TTT.

  8. I love the Outlander series too! I would definitely be taking Jamie Fraser with me.

  9. Yeah, I totally cheated and said I’m taking my Kindle… I mean, it’s smaller than a book. It can count. Also, I love how you feel the Southerness in Ya-Ya Sisterhood is exotic. I remember reading this and thinking “Oh yeah, that’s totally my family.” In fact, in the movie there’s a scene where Sidda’s dad says something like “Hey Butterbean” (don’t know if this is in the book – it’s been a while since I read it). My grandfather called my mom this. Funny how we react to books set in different parts of the country! Love your list; I had a blast with mine!

    • Kindles TOTALLY count! But I swear, everything about the Ya-Yas is so different from anything up here. I loved it. I’m jealous that they’re your family!! I can’t remember about butterbean, either, but I LOVE this as a nickname. Awesome.

  10. I’d go for the Kindle and my iPad if we were talking eReaders. However, I fully support your decision to save Anna and the French Kiss, Graffiti Moon, and Harry Potter.

And can I just say that I think it’s AWESOME you love Divine Secrets too? I loved that book and reread it quite often 🙂

    • Honestly, once I read Anna, it was like instant favorite. I reread that one quite a bit. And YAY! I’m so excited that you love the Ya-Yas!! Aren’t they fabulous? My copy is taped together. No lie.

  11. Yes! Legend is SO GOOD. And I love The Outlander series! I feel like there were some really creative choices here 🙂 Thanks!

    • I loved Legend. I can’t wait for the second book! GAH! And Outlander is seriously one of my favorite series. I still have to read the most recent one, but they’re so amazing!

  12. Is a Kindle really cheating? It’s the size of a book! Now, we would just have to string together car batteries and an exercise bike to be able to charge it, since there won’t be any electricity!

Hopping by… hope you stop by my Ten Saves.

  13. Bahahahah. That cheater JUST PROSPERED.

Um so your love for the YA YA Sisterhood makes me want to read it. That’s weird, but TRUE. Although I think bloody marys are gross.

    • Hahah…I know I’m in the minority with Blood Mary’s! But I’m so excited for you to read about the Ya-Yas! They’re feisty and loyal and SO AWESOME. I hope you love it!! 🙂

  14. Love Anna and the French Kiss! It’s such a Feel-Good Novel!

    Our Top Ten..err – NINE!

  15. Yes, yes, yes, yes to Anna. Anna is just perfect.

  16. So Legend is really that awesome huh? I’ve been meaning to read it since the concept wow-ed me. 🙂

Yeah, we all sort of cheated on this one I think! Atleast three or four of mine are series that I could NEVER live without!

Hit up my list if you want! Just to see what I mean. 😉

  17. Ooh. I forgot about The Sky is Everywhere. That’s such a good book. I could read it a million times.
