In My Mailbox (14)

February 12, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. It’s awesome. Every week, we all get a chance to tell everyone what new books we’ve gotten so that we can tell you guys and we can all drool and squee together! Huzzah for squees!

SO. MUCH. AWESOME. I’m VERY excited about the books this week, guys. (Seriously, though, when am I NOT?)

FROM NETGALLEY

The Raft, by S.A. Bodeen (August 21, 2012 from Feiwel & Friends). If this book about a young girl who is stranded on a remote, possibly uninhabited island after a plane crash doesn’t sound EXACTLY like YA Lost, I don’t know what does. What are the odds on these kids finding a hatch? Smoke monster? Cave with two ancient skeletons?

Shadow & Bone: The Grisha, #1, by Leigh Bardugo (June 5, 2012 from Holt Books for Young Readers).  Guys, this book sounds like some VERY PROMISING fantasy about a young girl who has magical powers that may help save her war-torn kingdom from annihilation at the hands of flesh-eating beasts and other assorted enemies. YES PLEASE.

Struck, by Jennifer Bosworth (May 8, 2012 from Farrar, Straus & Giroux). Earthquakes, dystopian Los Angeles, CULTS, and doomsday prophecies??? SOUNDS SICK. I am in.

Of Poseidon: Of Poseidon, #1, by Anna Banks (May 22, 2012 from Feiwel & Friends). Can’t lie, guys: I’m kind of really psyched about all the mermaid/mermen/Kings and Queens of the Sea business that’s coming out soon. OF POSEIDON sounds fun, PLUS–Jersey Shore (not the Snookie kind, but the actual real beach). REPRESENT!

The Treachery of Beautiful Things, by Ruth Frances Long (August 16, 2012 from Penguin Young Readers). Faeries and some enchanted woods and a missing brother and an enigmatic guy all sounds SOLID. Looking forward to this one!

The Garden Intrigue: Pink Carnation, #8, by Lauren Willig (February 16, 2012 from Dutton). You guys know that I LOVE the Pink Carnation books, so to say that I’m JAZZED to read the newest installment is an understatement. Seriously adore these books.

(Thanks muchly to Macmillan Children’s, Penguin Young Readers Group, and Penguin USA for these FABULOUS books!)

FROM THE LIBRARY

Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, and Spirit Bound: Vampire Academy, #2-5. I’m catching up on this series fast, friends. Now, confidential to the dear patron who checked out LAST SACRIFICE before I did: I’m waiting on you, my dear!

BOUGHT

Born Wicked: The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1, by Jessica Spotswood. This is one of my highly anticipated reads, guys, and I got my hot little hands on a copy RIGHT AWAY. I’m going to be diving into this one ASAP.

Anastasia’s Secret, by Susanne Dunlap. Snatched this one up for Le Kindle and it sounds SO up my alley: it’s about Anastasia Romanov during the last days of her father’s reign as Tsar in which she and her LOVER (!!) attempt to escape her family’s prison in Siberia.

Prisoners in the Palace: How Princess Victoria Became Queen With the Help of Her Maid, by Michaela MacColl. Have I ever told you how excited I get when the Kindle Daily Deals are awesome, guys? No? Well I do. This book–a historical fiction about a young Queen Victoria–sounds fab.

What kind of fab stuff did you guys get this week?

Comments

  1. I just finished Shadow and Bone today, and LOVED it. I’m actually re-reading it again… Also, The Garden of Intrigue is a great book – one of the best in the series, but then again I say that with every new Pink book.

    • Oh, YAY!! I’m so glad you liked it. It really sounds so good! And I’m just like you with the Pink Carnation books–I love them all! Such a great series!

  2. AM I THE ONLY ONE who hasn’t gotten so much as a decline from Macmillan? Seriously. I requested like, a LOT of their books and everyone is getting approvals and at this point I wouldn’t even mind if I got a decline just not that dreaded “new” marking on NG.

    Happy reading!

  3. Our mailboxes look very similar! I’m so excited for these Macmillan titles – Of Poseidon sounds amazing. The Treachery looks really good too.

    Enjoy all your new reads!

  4. OF POSEIDON sounds so ridiculously rad. Mostly because it’s going all Greek Mythology on our punk asses. I can’t wait!

  5. Nice haul and the covers are awesome!

  6. Among the books you have here, Prisoners in the Palace caught my eye. I have a thing for historical fiction. 🙂 The Raft also looks nice. Enjoy your new reads this week.

    • I love historical fiction, too. I am making a major effort to read more this year because I feel like I’ve been slacking. My fingers are crossed for that one and Anastasia’s Secret, too. I love me some Imperial Russia!

  7. OH MY GOODNESS! THAT TREACHERY OF BEAUTIFUL THINGS SOUNDS AWESOME.

ALSO the other fantasy book, the Shadow And Bone one looks excellent.

And yo, I need to hop on ordering Anastacia’s Secret because it looks great.

Happy reading, Amy! I mean obvi you are happily reading, I see that Vampire Academy love on the twitters. <3

    • haha…I am converted to the church of Vampire Academy! It’s so good! I’m on Spirit Bound right now and I’m loving it, OBVIOUSLY.
I’m pretty psyched about Shadow & Bone, too. I’d never heard of it until recently and I think it sounds FAB. Huzzah!

  8. Seriously fabulous books this week! Hope you enjoy!!! I cant wait to read Struck!

    http://bundlesofbooks101.blogspot.com/2012/02/in-my-huge-mailbox-10.html

    • Seriously, Born Wicked sounds AMAZING. I’ve been hearing great things about it, and I read the first couple of chapters on Penguin’s Scribd page and I was totally sucked in. LOVED IT, and I can’t wait to read the whole thing!

  11. NetGalley! I want to go to there! I feel so far behind on reading it’s not even funny… There needs to be like 8 extra hours in my day so I can have weekly reads like these! Must go request books ASAP and then go to bookstore ASAP and then pay outrageous library fines ASAP so I can check out more books ASAP! 🙂

    • haha…You need to do all the things ASAP!! But NetGalley is paradise!! The only thing is that you are a little more obligated to read things within a certain time frame, but it’s one of the only places that I can get ARCs right now, so I’m their slave. How could I not be when they have all this awesome stuff!?

  12. Great books! I really want to read Born Wicked. I have a hard copy of Prisoners in the Palace, but I do love the Kindle Daily Deal!

    • Born Wicked is coming up soon for me! I don’t think I could wait too much longer to read it anyway! But those kindle daily deals…sometimes they are seriously awesome. Yay cheap ebooks!!

  13. Ooh awesome I still have to get a copy of Born Wicked it sounds SO good!
