Top Ten Books I’d Recommend To My Sister

So friends, my sister is one of my BFFs for real. We have lots in common, but not everything. Case in point? READING. She, like, doesn’t. Well, that’s not fair. She LOVES Harry Potter and the Stephanie Plum series, as well as the Pink Carnation books. But she doesn’t like fantasies AT ALL, or paranormal anything, and YA books aren’t really her jam. Recommending books for her is not easy, but I think she might actually read a few of these, haha! Maybe.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterLittle bit of a cheat, since this isn’t even out yet. But I did read this COMPLETELY SEXY book on Wattpad and I am convinced that my sister will LOVE it. It’s not YA, it’s got a great romance (like, not even kidding), and a sweet little football angle. I am DYING for her to read this book.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterSoooo, I haven’t actually read any of these books. I know, I know. I have a bunch on my kindle, but I think my sister would like these, even if it was just for the sake of taking up time.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterMy sister and I both LOVE Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation series, so I’m always trying to find other historical romances for my sister to read. She also likes mysteries (umm, sometimes), so I think Deanna Raybourn’s EXCELLENT series is a good mesh. Plus, OMG BRISBANE. *Swoons*

Top Ten Tuesday sisterI’ve recommended this series to people who loved Harry Potter and were looking for some readalikes, but it wasn’t always a big mover; I think these books, while SUPREMELY AWESOME, are a little more juvenile. But I would encourage my sister to give these a go. Because PERCY!! I <3 him to the end of time.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterI’ve actually been meaning to give my sister my copy of this one. I have a much better chance of successfully recommending books to her that aren’t YA, and I think she would like this one a lot. But you know, she’s unpredictable! I think she’d dig the way this book reminded me of Hope Floats.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterParis! Sigh. I have to tell you guys, I am banking on Paris as being a big enough draw for this one. My sister loves Paris. She loves romances. I’m hoping that Anna and Etienne are as satisfying and real a couple for her to enjoy.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterBasically, see Anna. Because DITTO. WHO COULD NOT LOVE THIS BOOK? Ahem. Probably my sister, but let’s not be negative.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterThis is probably the biggest gamble on my list. Well, this and maybe the next book. But you know what I’m confident in? Rainbow Rowell’s writing. I feel like my sister sometimes toes the line between liking a book because it’s a little dark and thinking it’s too depressing and not feeling it at all. I’m hoping that this book is just the perfect level of brutal but sweet reality.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterI’ve wanted my sister to read this book since I first read it two years ago. I LOVE IT. I love the way it explores the relationship between sisters. Lenny and Bailey remind me of the two of us and so I’ve always wanted to see if she saw the same similarities and had the same feelings.

Top Ten Tuesday sisterProbably the safest bet. Being a big fan of the Pink Carnation books, I think my sister would find lots to like if she read The Bridgerton’s series by Julia Quinn or any of Sarah MacLean’s books. And I know these aren’t strictly historical romance, but she did love Philippa Gregory’s books once upon a time, so I’d definitely shove some of her new books under my sister’s nose.

Comments

  1. I need to get reading those Lucky Harbor books. I keep seeing them mentioned. First by Ginger. They look really cute. I have been on the verge of buying book one for so long.. but the problem is.. I’m afraid if I start one I’ll have to drop everything and keep reading them all like the did the Bella Andre books. And I just dont have time for that right now!! lol. Maybe after the holidays. 🙂

  2. gorgeous graphics!! I love your list — so many of my favorites! my favorite historical romances are by Mary Balogh — have you read any of her books?

  3. Loved Anna and the French Kiss, The Sky is Everywhere, and Eleanor & Park. I’ve heard such great things about Just One Day, I really need to read that one. Great list and hope your sister actually reads some of these (and likes them)!

  4. Love this list! I adored ANNA both times I read it, and I love that you mostly stuck to a romance or historical theme. I hope someday your sis reads some of these books and likes them!
