Top Ten Most Anticipated Next Books in a Series
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday’s on their site!
Freebie week! I always get a big kick out of Top Ten Tuesday freebies because I get to be super specific and nerdy with my list-making. For this week, I decided to focus on upcoming books in series that I am DYING to read. Some of them are second books–in fact, most of them are–but there are other installments represented as well. And, yeah, there’s two books on here that I technically don’t need to wait for because they’re out already. I’m just a slacker. But these are my 12 most anticipated next books in a series! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THESE BOOKS.
So, I have to admit that it took me a little while to get into THE RAVEN BOYS, but Maggie Stiefvater’s writing was, as always, excellent, and by the end I was both completely invested and mildly confused. Really looking forward to seeing where things go in book 2. (September 17, 2013)
Guys, THE HALLOWED ONES was one of the most legit, creepy vampire books I’ve ever read. And the Amish angle? KILLED ME, it was so awesome. I’m dying to get the sequel into my hot little hands. (September 3, 2013)
I know I’ve mentioned so many times how much I am in love with Marissa Meyer’s series. CINDER remains one of my favorite books ever, but you know what’s the absolute best? SCARLET, book number 2, is on that list too. The anticipation I have for this book is off the charts. (February 4, 2014–WAAAH!)
Umm, spies? YES, PLEASE. I’ve been listening to this series via audio and the first five books sadly are loitering on my “to review” pile. Here’s my thoughts in a nutshell, though: Book 1? Good but not great. But the series improves from there as a huge conspiracy is unearthed and secrets are revealed. This is the last book in the series and, as with all Ally Carter’s books, I’m hoping for some humor, drama, and an escalation in kissing. I’ll probably get two out of three.
I KNOW, I KNOW. Way behind the times. Chapter 62, here I come! (This one, as you all probably know, is out already.)
Three of my absolute favorite series are on this list, friends–one of them is The Lunar Chronicles, and one of them is the next one on my list–and one of them is R.L. LaFevers’ historical fiction/fantasy series about the Handmaidens of Death and the dangerous politics of 13th century Brittany. I ADORE THESE BOOKS LIKE WHOA, and am already salivating over the third and final book in this series. (2014–Not even a date yet. Too far away!)
This series is just flat-out GORGEOUS. I am 100% invested in Karou and Akiva’s story and in the fate of their world. Laini Taylor writes heartbreakingly lovely stories, and this one is no exception. The way things were left standing at the end of DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT left me crazy with need for book 3. (April 2014)
By the time book 2 in this series comes out, it will have been over a YEAR since SERAPHINA was released. Friends, I need more dragons in my life STAT! The world in this series is stellar. (February 25, 2014)
Ever since I finished reading BORN WICKED, it’s been on my mind. It’s got awesome witchiness, sure, but the alternate history is amazing and the sister relationships are tricky and intense and pretty real. Thankfully, I don’t have to wait long at all for the sequel, because the end of book 1 was ROUGH. (June 18, 2013)
Another one where I’m slightly cheating because I actually own this book, I just haven’t read it yet. THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS was a really special fantasy, friends, that has elements I don’t regularly encounter in my frequent fantasy reading–religion (in a not-overwhelming, pushy way at all) and a Spanish-esque setting. (Already lingering on my kindle.)
SIGH. I just completely loved JUST ONE DAY, friends, so I’m jonesing for book 2, from Willem’s point of view. Gayle Forman is an insta-read author for me. Her books just kill my heart and then bring it back to life. (October 15, 2013)
For real, Day and June are two of my favorite characters IN THE WHOLE WORLD, and the bomb that Marie Lu dropped on us at the end of PRODIGY gutted me a little bit. Best news ever? I don’t even have to wait a whole year for book 3 to come out and see what happens!! (November 5, 2013)
I did the exact same topic, lol! And I’ve definitely got some of the same titles on my list – Dream Thieves, Champion, Cress… Gah, so excited for those, especially after the endings of the first two. =S And I loooooved Unravel Me, I hope you do to!
Star Cursed was really good. I liked it a lot more than Born Wicked. Also, yes to Cress! I’m definitely looking forward to that one.
My TTT post 🙂
I am SO excited for Cress, United We Spy, and Just One Year. Why can’t they just be out already?! 🙂 My TTT is Fictional Places I’d Love to Vacation: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2013/05/27/vacation/

Girl, get to reading Crown of Embers!!! You will not be disappointed. Not. At. All!
I am dying for most of these books. They are way up there on my “gimme gimme gimme” list!
I didn’t know there was a second in the His Fair Assassin series out yet. Sweet, I have something to tide me over until 2014. 🙂
Here’s my TTT for the week. Happy reading!
Amy, I hope you love Unravel Me when you finally read it. It was truly a GREAT book.
Also, I have GOT to get on with reading Scarlet. *eyes copy longingly*
Have a fab week, chica!
SERAPHINA TWO omg basically flailing my arms everywhere right now.
I have needed Cress in my life since YESTERDAY. I’m obsessed with The Lunar Chronicles and I need to know what happens to the gang — and just WHO Cress is about, really. It’s going to be a very interesting addition, and the wait just seems TOO long.
I also am interested in reading The Crown of Embers (after LOVING The Girl of Fire and Thorns), because I need more of that story and the world and the characters. And I’m also excited for The Dream Thieves (!) and Shadowscale (!)!
Oh my gosh, I cannot wait to read Cress!!!!! Seriously, I need it now.
