Top Ten Favorite Paperback Book Covers
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday’s on their site!
Top Ten Tuesday Rewind!!! It’s a testament to my determination to find silver linings that this list isn’t the inverse: my ten LEAST favorite paperback covers. Because unlike this list, which I couldn’t even find 10 books for, would likely be longer than 10 books. But let’s look at the bright side, shall we, friends? Tell me: am I missing any great paperback covers?
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
I’m a big fan of the paperback redesigns Penguin put out last year of all Sarah Dessen’s books, but this one is my double-favorite: Of the Dessen’s I’ve read so far–admittedly not all of them–this story was my favorite. And I love turquoise. This cover is so summery perfect. BIG FAN.
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Nothing flashy about this paperback, but I think it’s a great example of keeping the spirit of the original cover while updating it and cleaning it up a little bit. PLUS. It’s got a dragon on the cover. Honestly.
The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder
First of all, I’m a fan of the fact that this book is mostly white. When does that ever happen? Also, it falls under that same category of “taking an element from the original cover and changing it up a bit.” I love the pink, and I love the feathers. So pretty!
Anna and the French Kiss & Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
SIGH. I am just DYING over the redesigned paperback covers of Stephanie Perkins’ books. They. Are. GORGEOUS. And basically perfect. It’s pretty rare for me to find a paperback cover that I like more than the hardcover, but these covers are definitely a good example.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
WHY wasn’t this the hardcover? I’m dying over here! I wish I could return my hard cover to buy this version instead! WHAT A BADASS Celaena is on this cover! I’m seriously a little bitter but I’ll get over it.
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Confession: I own two copies of this book already (hardcover and audio), but when I saw this gorgeous painted version I knew I had to have it. I LOVE IT.
The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
I actually kind of liked the hardcover of this book, but I kind of like this version too. It keeps the creep factor and it’s got those weird, misty letters. Plus, turquoise.
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
So I know that this is the US Kindle cover and I think the Canadian paperback, so I fudged this one a touch. But I love it. I love how it keeps my favorite part of the hardcover–the woodcutting!–and makes it COLORFUL. YAY!
I adore that Seraphina cover. I wish I could get a hardcover of that one. The purple is gorgeous. And I agree that the Throne of Glass cover is SO much better than the original US one. I’m glad they’re sticking with that theme for book two.
My TTT post
I love ASoIaF covers, so simple yet powerful! Great list, love the ones you picked!
My TTT
The Scorpio Races paperback is one of my favorite covers ever!! I’m really glad it seems the pub listened to all of the negative feedback for the Throne of Glass hardcover, and changed over to the UK cover for the paperback. I really wasn’t a fan of the book, unfortunately, so I kind of felt like the hardcover fit more, even though it wasn’t near as awesome.
Those Stephanie Perkins re-designs are some of the best I’ve ever seen. I love everything about them whereas I hated everything about the previous covers. Now, I know that sounds a bit harsh but I’m an honest person. I think these covers will appeal to a broader group of readers with a larger age group. Plus hello I am always a fan of font covers.
GOOD GRACIOUS that purple Seraphina cover needs to be framed and on my wall because hello purple + dragons = winner forever.
Also, I think every cover *I’ve* ever seen of The Probability of Miracles is stunning. This one is too!
LOVE this topic! You know how much I love book covers. LOVE.
I’m not the biggest fan of the ANNA/LOLA covers, but I think it’s mostly bc I already OWN the original covers, and now – knowing that it’s a given I’ll buy ISLA – my covers will never match, and I don’t have the money to re-buy them in the new covers. MEH. *is a bit OCD about this sort of thing*
That Seraphina cover is gorgeous though! I have the original hardcover, but I LOVE that purple!
Molli | Once Upon a Prologue
Oh, what a fun topic! LOVE the paperback cover for The Scorpio Races and I really, really adore all of the new Sarah Dessen covers!!! Much better than the originals, actually.
I’m not sure how I feel about the new Anna/Lola covers… I DO like them better than the hokey originals, but still…….. Now Isla will be different haha. They’re a little plain but I can’t tell if I like them or not!
Very fun topic! Love your choices (and I love turquoise too – Blues of all sorts! <333)
I love the redesigned covers for Stephanie Perkins’ books, they’re so pretty! Fun topic! 🙂 I chose Top Ten Favorite Quotes from Books: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2013/04/15/quotes/

You definitely picked out some amazing covers for this! While I do love most of them, my favorite, without a doubt, is The Scorpio Races. It’s absolutely gorgeous – and I want to own it. (SOON!)
OH MY GURSH AMY THAT SERAPHINA COVER I CANT EVEN.
I think I like all of these but the Seraphina cover – yeah, sorry about starting this comment out negatively. I really just prefer the original because it makes me think about the time period in which it’s set (you know, fantasy time period). That being said… I LOVE ALL THESE OTHER COVERS!!!!!! Esp the Stephanie Perkins ones. I’m prob in the minority of those who love the originals, but these just give them a different feel… like more grown up and sophisticated. Great topic!
I’m a big fan of Sarah Dessen, but I’m not a fan of the redesigned covers. I don’t like the glossiness and I find them too simple. Her stories are so complex, that I found the first covers portrayed them better. That’s just me though.
I am not really wowed by the new Anna and Lola covers. I didn’t particularly like the original covers either (cheesy!) but these ones don’t really catch my eye. I also think that they won’t draw teens in. But I guess they are better than the cheesy ones!
I definitely prefer the hardcover for The Name of the Star. Just because I thought it was pretty. I’m shallow like that 🙂
I love that cover of The Scorpio Races, it’s fricken boss.
ALSO. Agree about Throne of Glass.
I am not sure about how I feel about the Sarah Dessen re-designs.
Also. Another cover redesign I really dig is Gimme A Call by Sarah Mlynowski.
