Top Ten TuesdayTop Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Auto-Buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday‘s on their site!

***

I have to confess: I kind of love it when Top Ten Tuesday is the kind of topic where I can immediately think of at least half of my list right off the top of my head. Sometimes those are the weeks when I get overwhelmed, and my Top Ten Tuesday becomes Top Eleven or Twelve Tuesday because I just can’t narrow it down. I’ve stuck to the limit this week, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less IN LOVE with these authors. I will read all of their words, forever. In no particular order…

Stephanie Perkins

Because OBVIOUSLY. I adore her books to the ends of the earth, and even though her next book after this fall’s ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER (already preordered) is going to be about ZOMBIES–something I almost never read–I’ll still get all fangirly. If there’s anyone who can get me on the zombie bus in conjunction with Courtney Summers, it’s this lady.

Maggie Stiefvater

I have read literally every book Maggie Stiefvater has written. I own most of them (none of her faerie books). THE SCORPIO RACES is for real one of my favorite YA books EVER. I basically love her to bits and pieces. Plus, I’ve been following her author blog just about as long as I’ve been reading YA, so I feel extra loyal.

George R.R. Martin

For starters, I will read anything this man writes AS LONG as it doesn’t interfere with him finishing A Song of Ice and Fire first. (Seriously. Quit reading my  blog all day, George, and GO WRITE.) I will always be a fan of fantasy that knocks my socks off with stellar, complete world-building, and George knows how to get it done. And even when he kills people who are some of the only bright lights in his books, I still love him because he has the stones to be utterly ruthless. RESPECT.

Laini Taylor

SIGH. Friends, I am reading DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT right now and it reminds me anew how gorgeous and imaginative and lush Laini Taylor’s stories are. I still need to check out her Blackbringer books, but I’ve read all of her other work and it has all enchanted me.

Jandy Nelson

I know, I know. Jandy has only written one book so far. SO FAR. I’m telling you right now: if she doesn’t write anything else ever again it will be both a crime against books and the best one-and-done in the history of the world. It’s pretty special when an author becomes an auto-buy after just one book and doesn’t get bumped off the list when years pass without her publishing anything new.

Julie Kagawa

The truth about me is that I love the IDEA of faeries, but I often find myself struggling to read any other books about them aside from Julie Kagawa’s. I recommend her Iron Fey series to people all the time, especially if someone tells me faeries aren’t usually their thing. I haven’t read THE IMMORTAL RULES yet, because I have to psych myself up to read about vamps sometimes, but I own it. AND AND! Her next series has “mythical creatures” in it. OMG I CAN’T EVEN.

Lauren Willig

Historical romance HOLLA! I’ve grown into quite a fan of this genre in the past few years, but whatever love I know bear for this politely sexy books began with Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation series, which you all should read. They’re sexy, funny, clever, and fast-paced. She’s got a new series starting that takes place in the 20s, which isn’t always my FAVORITE time period, but you know I’m reading it.

Kristin Cashore

I have such a soft spot for this lady because she really got me loving YA when I first read GRACELING. I love the way she creates these really empowered, strong female characters who stand by their convictions. I think I heard a rumor somewhere that she’s working on something contemporary now, which is AWESOME. I’m in.

Morgan Matson

This is another author who became insta-buy after just one book. AMY & ROGER’S EPIC DETOUR is a book that I come back to all the time. I feel like it’s one of those books that other people like a lot, but I LOVE TONS and can’t ever seem to explain why. SECOND CHANCE SUMMER was a totally different vibe but still wonderful. I wish Morgan could write faster!!

Jennifer Echols

Ever since I read GOING TOO FAR, I have read and/or purchased every single one of Jennifer Echols’ books. In fact, I’ve got some goodies of hers coming my way tomorrow! I love the relationship she writes, and I love the settings of her books. And, lest’s be serious, I love the sexytimes.

Comments

  1. Yay, Laini Taylor! I seriously love that woman. Her writing is so mature and insightful, even while she tells a great fantasy/paranormal story. Ugh. I haven’t managed to read anything by Morgan Matson, but she’s showing up on so many of this week’s lists that she’s definitely got my attention now!

  2. This was actually an easy topic for me as there are only a handful of authors whose books I love so much that I would auto-buy them. The only one of yours who I’ve read is Stiefvater and, even then, I’ve only read the first two books of her werewolves series. I really need to get to SCORPIO RACES, as I’ve heard it’s fabulous.

Glad to have “met” you via TTT!

  3. I love your blog! and you picked some awesome authors!! I love Kristin Cashore and Jennifer Echols!

  4. Stiefvater almost made it onto my list, and Cashore SHOULD have… ahhh! So many great authors!

    Thanks for sharing. *grin*

  5. The Scorpio Races is one of my favorite books too! I just wasn’t a huge fan of the Shiver triology, it was good but not one of my favorites, and I’m still too hesitant about Raven Boys to add her on my auto-buy list.

    My Top Ten Tuesday

  6. I was so close to putting George on my list! He’s written other series, hasn’t he? But yes please let him live long enough to finish ASoI&F or I will just wither away into nothing.

  7. Oh I am so with you, I love when the topic is something I can come up with quickly. I can get so picky that some of the other topics have taken be a better part of a day to perfect. I think a sign of love is how quickly they pop into your head, so these have got to be good!

  8. Aw, man, EVERYONE picked Kristin Cashore. I fail, because I LOVE fantasy, but I’ve yet to read any of her books. I think it’s just that for awhile, they weren’t on my radar, then when Bitterblue came out she was all I heard about. Now I just don’t have a lot of money coming in so I have to be picky with what I buy…but I should see if my library has her books. *nods* This is a good plan.

Molli | Once Upon a Prologue

  9. Yo, I need to read Second Chance Summer like, this instant. SIGHHHH, given how much I loved Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour.

I’m currently making my way through Clash Of Kings and no lie I just want Dany to fly around on a dragon or something.

    YES! Stephanie Perkins.

Hmmmm, why hasn’t Jandy Nelson written another book? She’s so great and miles above a lot of the crap that gets published. Hopefully she does another soon.

  10. I really am not particularly fond of fae/fairies or the like BUT I have yet to give Julie Kagawa a try. Since so many people who’s opinion I trust LOVED The Iron Fey series, perhaps I should give it a go?

Also, Maggie Stiefvater is the BEST. Her writing is GORGEOUS.
